Skream - Where You Should Be

Been posting a whole lot of grime tunes lately, but I figured this tune is perfect to change the pace. You can clearly tell that Olly put a whole lot of work into this one. The progression is brilliant and the synth line in the hook is unmatched. Class class tune. I fell in love with it immediately.

Skream - Outside the Box Review

Rusko.. You hate to see that happen.

All right, well, it's about time I actually comment on this, as it's something I've been thinking about for quite some time. Everyone knows Rusko, the international dub-super-producer, who's recent rise to fame has him collaborating with stars in the US such as Gucci Mane, even Britney Spears.

However, it isn't his fame that interests me. It's the direction he's gone. Perhaps "interest" isn't the correct term. I believe "disappointment" is more fitting.

Everyone knows that around a year ago, Rusko was the biggest name in dubstep. There's no denying that (having said that, I never believed he was the best, mind you). With killer tunes like "Woo Boost" and "Jahova" out, his popularity absolutely skyrocketed, bringing him to the United States. Everyone waited on the release of his highly-anticipated "OMG" record, even here in the states. To be perfectly honest, I was expecting a high quality, head banging, jump up dub record with no shortage of quality tracks. Oh how I was wrong.

I'll be honest and say that "OMG" was probably one of the worst dub records I've ever heard. I don't know if it was the exposure to American culture that changed him, or if he just simply lost touch, but Woo Boost was the only good tune on that record in my opinion. His track with Gucci Mane was an utter annoyance, and the rest completely fell short of any expectation I had of that album. I get the whole attempt to make dubstep commercial and marketable to a higher degree, but at what cost do producers have to pay in order to get fucking radio play over here? It's ridiculous! I believe that dubstep should be taken as is in it's effort to become commercial.

Now don't get me wrong... I'm not another Rusko hater who bases his opinions strictly on the fact that his dub is becoming "commercial". Commercial is not always a bad thing! I also get that Rusko has always been on the poppy side of dubstep, never FULLY venturing into any other sub-category (I've heard his tunes, spare me the history lesson). However, I am a Rusko fan who has been disappointed to the highest degree. He could have done loads better on that record, and in my opinion, failed miserably.

In the event Rusko ever comes across this, I have this to say: "Embrace your roots, don't change your style to accompany the needs of an extremely materialistic market, and make some fuckin' dubstep." And that's all it comes down to. And to those reading from overseas, not everyone here is a Rusko fanatic. He's had some great tunes, but the majority of those who actually KNOW and UNDERSTAND dubstep, know that he's taken a massive turn for the worse. I for one, seriously hope his next record is up to par, because if he releases another like that, I may stop listening. I'm pullin' for you Rusko! But I'm afraid that's a battle you have to fight with yourself.

And another thing, if you (Rusko) ever got in a fight with Deadmau5, afraid I'd be standing sidelines on that one. Sure you'd win the fight, but Deadmau5 is Demi-God status. Sorry mate.

Bieber Fever, Interview, Jesus

If there's anything I've noticed about Twitter since I joined the site, it's this mad obsession girls have with Justin Bieber. He's about as interesting as Fox News at 11:30 AM. Jussayin.

Twitter blackout, Interview, Radio play etc.

Twitter is ill. I am upset. That's all I have to say about it. Unfortunate.

However! Last night we completed our first little interview with miss Lara Crofton (@laracrofton) for her blog based out of London! Questions were straightforward and to the point, and will produce a fantastic result once published. I'll state again, I'll be posting the links once the actual post is published!

Another thing goin on, our buddy from across the pond Emmet Walker of Dublin, Ireland (@Mofo_Hobo) played out our Pursuit of Happiness remix this morning (early evening there) on his weekly show he hosts on PlayFMDublin. Emmet has helped us out a lot up until this point, and we have mad gratitude and respect for him because of it. Big up mate, appreciate all the help!

Also I must add, thanks going out again to the massive amounts of feedback we've received over the last few days. To everyone who's taken the time, thank you. I've always attempted to have a strong connection with each and every person who listens, and enjoys listening to our music, and I will continue to keep that connection both through here, or on Twitter. Thank you guys so so much for all the kind words!

In case you're finding it out here first, Tyler (P!NQu3) has finished up his FL3MBOT remix, and posted this absolutely MASSIVE tune called "Left Coast Zombie" literally, today. Both tunes are guaranteed to get your head noddin, and your body movin. As you may or may not have noticed, I always post the link to our soundcloud at the end of my posts, so if you have yet to hear these tunes, you know where to go!

Thank every one so much!
Massive ups to all you fans out there helping us out and jammin our tunes!

Funtcase - So Vexed

Another banger from Funtcase... Absolute destruction in this tune! The sub is out of control, the wobbles are filthy, an absolute MUST for any grime DJ. MASSIVE.

Digital Soundboy - I Need Air Remix

Not a huge DnB fan, but I always said this song would sound loads better as a dnb or trance tune. This is my vision, embodied. Absolutely perfect.

Been slackin'

Sorry for the slackin' in blog posts, but I've been a tad busy with both class, promo, and the other assorted activities I find myself doing on a daily basis. But, DAM got a little interview tomorrow with a dub blog out of London called Make It Good. I'll post the link at the close of this. BUT, we've received a massive influx of feedback in the last few days and to everyone that took the time to voice their opinion, I thank you. Seriously, without you guys, we wouldn't be making dub in the first place. Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you.

Side note: Shark Week.

Big up,

The blog to end all blogs...

All right. Get comfy. I have loads to talk about here. Sports, life, tunes, people, experiences, laughs etc. Prob gonna be one of my longer posts, so I'll post something for you to listen to whilst you read.

PS: That's a little collaborative remix my boy P!NQu3 and I recently completed.

So last night, after much anticipation, anxiety, deliberation and near failure, I attended my first Manchester United match. For those who don't know, deffo my favourite athletic club. As in over every other team, in every sport in the world. Game went quite well, Manchester winning 5-2, as well as Giggsie, my favourite PLAYER of all time, getting to hoist up the MLS All-Star award at the closing. So, that was class. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and if my career or tunes bring me to the UK anytime in the future, I'll be attending another (at Old Trafford, rather than Reliant). The funny part about it being that my mate I was attending the match with had drank a bit before my arrival, and walking 10 blocks to the train station in 95 degree temperatures, then loading onto a completely crowded train didnt exactly agree with him. We were a bit late, but we made it.

Now, to the next topic I've got swimmin around the voids in my mind... This may build upon a Blog I posted earlier this week (regular reader hint!). I fully understand immaturity in youth. I really do. My younger brother, at the age of 7, is immature, but thats EXPECTED of him as he's only a boy. Now, dear late-teenage-early-twenties-fellow-classmates of mine... Immaturity, is not expected from you. As a matter of fact, it's discouraged. Your 10 year old sister is NOT a "complete bitch", nobody cares how hard you think it is to quit smoking, nor does anyone care about your high school, and what teachers you loved and hated. You're in college. Your ten year old sister is a typical ten year old girl, smoking isn't hard to quit, especially at your young age unless you've been smoking since age 12 or so, and you've graduated high school! Your past teachers are (or should be) completely out of your mind at this point! Another thing to add, if you have something in your brain you know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about, do NOT go spouting off random factoids about how much you know... People like me could be in the room. People with a small amount of knowledge that realize your little schpiel(sp?) you just went on was complete bullshit. Once again, be yourself, and be real. Real recognizes real (in more ways than one).

In the tunes department, P!NQu3 is currently working on a remix to my title track of the upcoming EP entitled FLEMBOT, and from what I've heard, all you grime fans will be into this one. And I heard it without bass... Impressive without bass. I said it.

I'm going to try to wrap this one up as I have things to plan, people to call, feats to accomplish, tunes to attend to etc... But I only have a few things left to say. To all my Twitter followers that provide me with feedback, THANK YOU! I love Twitter for that reason, that I can connect and speak to fans (or just listeners) worldwide! Feels good to know people out there are listening in to what we have working. To SoundCloud, fix your damn website please.

I may be becoming a regular on a work-in-progress podcast, on which I'll be providing music, and humour. So be on the watch for that, and I'll be updating on that soon.

Thanks for readin'!

Bare Noize - Winter Hunter Remix

I dunno what it is about this remix I like so much... I think it could be the implementation of rock into a dub tune? Could be vocal track... I truthfully dunno. Class tune though.

-Skuzzy
soundcloud.com/damdubstep

Bassnectar - Timestretch

Seriously massive tune. Was vibin out to this as I was driving home from class earlier, and actually gained a new appreciation for Bassnectar. The ambient tones combined with the hard hitting bass and minimalistic drums, come together for what becomes and absolutely beautiful tune. This song, as well as the rest of the EP, bring you into the mind of Lorin Ashton, and you truly discover the inspiration and glory that is Bassnectar dubstep. Let the nectar seep into your bloodstream.

-Skuzzy
soundcloud.com/damdubstep

Emalkay - Explicit

I dunno what it is about the classics that have me vibing so hard this week... But this tune seriously gets me every time. I've always known Emalkay for his innovative, and massively different style, and this tune perfectly embodies that difference. The tones are sick, the synth line is massive, the bass is phat... Killer tune. Plus, the vocal sample? Dope.

-Skuzzy
soundcloud.com/damdubstep

Flux Pavillion - Excuse Me

Get your skank shoes on. Flux has created another banger. The initial reggae vibes, along with the implementation of Flux's massive tone style, make this song both ORIGINAL, and impressive. This tune deffo had my head boppin through the headphones. Can't wait to hear more from this guy.

People Watching, Social Networks, etc.

So today, I noticed a few things about the world, that had of course entered my mind previous, but I had failed to express my knowledge of. So, I'm in class today, which is practically filled with adult's who had tried school prior, and had decided to come back and try once more. Now, I have NO PROBLEM with anyone returning to pursue their education.. As a matter of fact I fully support anyone without a degree, to return to school and achieve it. Now that being said, there is a woman in my class, who will remain unnamed as I haven't had the lovely pleasure of acquiring it. Well, mid lecture, the woman decided to strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to her, who sits directly behind me. Normally, this issue is something I take with a grain of salt, ignore it, and move on. However I'm not positive if it was the rain or what, but I took an extreme level of annoyance with this woman as she begins to describe last night's Ke$ha show as "Faaaaabulous", a word she used at every opportunity. She then begins to go into how she stays up till five in the morning, every morning, because she's always out drinking at the bar, or at a club, etc. Now this is what sparks my interest. Has this woman no responsibility at all? No sense of judgement? No musical taste?

From that moment on I had an epiphany, and I know the majority of people reading have had this at one point or another... Be yourself. Simply put. If you are a woman, obviously going BACK to school (as this woman was nearing her thirties), at some point you have to realize that there are things more important than getting canned every night and going to Ke$ha concerts (and in regards to the latter, MANY more). This all of course, is in assumption that she wasn't lying, which is very possible, but the point remains the same. You're near 30 years old and you have to lie to make yourself acceptable to someone more youthful than yourself? Seems a tad backwards doesn't it?

Granted it isn't my place to judge, but as an American I'm allowed to have an opinion, and I stand by that right.

On the topic of social networks, I have to say, I enjoy them. Just from an artist-to-fanbase standpoint. I love the fact that listeners of your music are just a click away, and are always willing to provide with comments, and feedback. I love it. So to anyone who has ever told me,"I enjoy your music...", "I despise your music...", or anything of that sort, I thank you. Thank you for taking the time to voice your opinion!

Big up massive,

-Skuzzy
soundcloud.com/damdubstep

PS: Chick failed her exam. I got a 95.

Sub Scape - Nothing's Wrong

Old tune. But PHENOMINAL. I love this tune in every aspect. The production value, brilliant. Bassline, brilliant. Vocal sample? Bloody Brilliant! I seriously could listen to this all day... deffo a vibe out and chill tune. No recollection where I first heard this tune, but I know wherever it was, I was dancin. Big up Sub Scape. Big up Dub Police for finding this guy.

-Skuzzy

Doctor P - Sick Tonight Remix

Heard this at my local barber's over the radio... One of the sickest tunes I've heard in a long while. Definitely one of my favourites. Doctor P absolutely killed this song. You expect its going one way and he COMPLETELY switches gears and chops the beat at about 1/3 original tempo. Naaaaasty. Enjoy this one. I absolutely adore it, in the manliest way possible.

-Skuzzy
soundcloud.com/damdubstep

Datsik - Firepower (Mykies McFilthy Remix)

It's really rare that I like a remix more that the original... But the initial drop is what gets me. Not to mention it actually has a synth section where Datsik lacks in his version. Once again a relatively unknown tune, so big up to you Mykie! We heard you in Houston... haha

Wobble Bass Ruining Dubstep? Hardly...

Obviously I've been extremely active in my blogging today, but I've discovered something I can't pass up. So allegedly, all these forums and dub blogs etc. are claiming that wobble bass is ruining dubstep, as it ruined DnB. If you ask me, completely false. I personally enjoy the wobble aspect to MODERN dubstep, and how different it is to any other genre, with the exception of DnB. As everyone knows, dub evolved from UK Garage, Jungle, DnB, Reggae, HipHop, you name it. Modern dubstep has stemmed from all these genres in one way or another. Because of this, you're going to have a massive difference in sounds. There is still dub out there without wobble bass, as everyone knows and understands, including many of it's Jungle roots, just with a heavy sub bass. I don't fully understand how an implementation of a new sound, or new style, can ruin a genre. It isn't as if Soulja Boy decided to start producing...

Simply put, if you believe that wobble bass is ruining dubstep, you're wrong. In all actuality, it is HELPING BRING fans to dubstep. I couldn't even tell you how many people I know here in the states who love dubstep simply because of that aspect. And to those who don't want dubstep to go commercial, you're also wrong. It's only a matter of time. And once dub becomes commercial, your favourite dub artists can quit their day jobs and actually focus on TUNES PRIMARILY for once, furthering dub evolution. Which I personally don't stand against.

Well, that's all. Spoke my peace.

Big up readers,

-Skuzzy
soundcloud.com/damdubstep

PS: Saw this on one of the forums in question, and yes, it's meant sarcastically.

Dayn - Stomp

This is definitely for the grime lovers. I actually heard this tune when Diesel dropped it on a Chronos Records live webcast. The song itself is still relatively unknown, but that surely doesn't take away from the impressive nature of this tune. Grime, bass, noise. Listen, and watch your face hit the floor. This one is sure to become a staple tune for Grime DJ's across the land. Big up.

-Skuzzy

Oh, I forgot...

Here's a few of the newest tunes from D.A.M. Dubstep. Hope you enjoy:

Peace - Depeche Mode (DAM Remix)

Ya'll Know Me - D.A.M.

Pursuit of Happiness - KiD CuDi (DAM Remix)

All up for free download with the exception of "Ya'll Know Me", which is available upon request, as we have only mixed it down to a 16 bit .wav file.

Oh PS: Photoshop fun!

Magnetic Man - I Need Air

So this is the new tune by the dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man. The song OFFICIALLY dropped as of yesterday. The group consists of Skream, Benga, and Artwork. Song itself is extremely poppy-jump up dub. Very very commercial, which contrary to popular belief isn't always bad. I dug the vibes in this one. Extremely catchy, and the sub bass is pretty phat. Definitely a club song here. But I'm curious to see if anyone else caught this: The synth piece thats comes in near the end... Definitely recognize that sequence from Skream's soundcloud tune entitled "MAD" which was released ages ago. Just a thought. Well all in all I enjoyed it. Hope you did the same.

Finally got me a blog... Lets see who finds my thoughts, or music, interesting

SO, bloggers, this is my first blog post ever, without of course including the sporadic, and random posts you may or may not have read on MySpace, or Facebook. HOWEVER, I plan on using this to inform everyone I know of new tunes, new goings on, new whatever, rather than the non-reliable ranting route I had taken prior. That's why it's called a blog I guess. Well, I figured as this is my first blog post, I'll take the liberty to inform everyone reading who I am, what I'm about, my alcoholic beverage preferences etc. I'm Jacob Fleming, for starters. I'm a student of journalism (or communications... haven't quite decided yet), a dub-step producer for the collaborative group D.A.M., intellectual, music addict, football (soccer) fan, tad strange, internet junkie, over-analytical youth of Houston, Texas. I figure that sums me up quite well, pleased to meet you.

But down to what I actually plan on doing with this blog: Tunes. Yes, tunes. Essentially, all I do throughout my day, with the exception of attend class, do homework, and degrade women, is listen to, and find, tunes. You may envy my life, and I do not blame you. But once again, as this is my first blog post, I find I must include a killer tune to start my little blog off with... So I decided on this one.

I have been absolutely OBSESSED with this tune lately. Flux Pavillion is a dub producer from Northampton out in the UK. His synth sections are simply gorgeous in my opinion. He's allegedly dropping an EP this year at some point... You know who'll be in like to get it.

Well big up massive for readin'! We'll see how this blog thing goes. But as for first posts, I believe that was up to par yeah? Well, continue to watch, read, listen etc.
